As you will be aware, as part of the Scottish Joint Council Pay Negotiations for 2022/23, all employees (except for those employed under Chief Officers or Teacher’s and Associated Professionals Terms and Conditions of employment) were awarded an additional annual leave day with effect from the 1st April 2022.
All employees (except term-time employees) have had the additional annual leave day added to their iTrent record and this must be used by the 31st January 2023 along with any other outstanding annual leave.
The Covid Recognition Day does not need to be used within this timescale and employees have until 31st December 2023 to use this day.
New Annual Leave Entitlement (effective from 1st April 2022)
Detailed below are the new annual leave entitlements for all staff (except those employed under Chief Officer’s or Teacher’s and Associated Professionals Terms and Conditions). These came into effect from 1 April 2022.

As a reminder, the leave year runs from 1st January to 31st December, and all leave must be taken within the period 1st January of the year to which it relates and 31st January of the following year. Any leave not taken by 31st January of the following year will be forfeited. Therefore, please use your annual leave throughout the period of the leave year
Term-time Employees
Due to the complexity of the term-time salary calculation that incorporates annual leave and public holiday entitlements, the decision was taken following discussion with the relevant trade unions, that for the year 2022, the additional day’s leave will be paid as a one-off payment to all term-time employees. The proposed dates for this payment are as follows:
- Employees who are fortnightly paid will receive the payment on 2nd February 2023
- Employees who are four weekly paid will receive the payment on 7th February 2023
The additional annual leave day is being incorporated into the term-time salary calculation from 1st January 2023 and term-time salaries will be adjusted accordingly.
