Information for Part Time, Term Time, and Smarter Working Staff
For more information on how the additional public holiday is calculated for part-time employees or employees who do not normally work on a Monday as part of their normal working week see the Public Holiday Kings Coronation page.
All other staff
Both the UK and Scottish Government have proclaimed a bank holiday in honour of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. The bank holiday will take place on Monday 8 May 2023 following the Coronation on Saturday 6 May 2023.
North Lanarkshire Council recognises the significance of this event and has designated Monday 8 May 2023 as a public holiday and the following arrangements will apply:
- All council offices, schools and other buildings will be closed to the public on Monday 8 May 2023.
- Some essential services will be operational or operate normal standby arrangements for a public holiday on Monday 8 May 2023 and staff involved in these services will be advised accordingly.
- All other staff will not be required to work on Monday 8 May 2023.
Essential Services
Those who are required to work on Monday 8 May 2023 will be advised by their line manager. Anyone who is required to work on Monday 8 May 2023 will receive the enhanced rates for working on a public holiday in line with their contractual terms and conditions.
Employees not due to work on Monday 8 May 2023
Employees who are not scheduled to work on Monday 8 May 2023 as part of their normal work pattern, will have the public holiday hours added to their annual leave entitlement on itrent. Please note that if you are a full-time worker on 35 hours a week, 7 hours will be added, and for a full-time worker on 37 hours a week 7.4 hours will be added. Anyone who works less than full time, will receive a pro-rata entitlement. Employees whose work pattern means that they work more than 7 hours or 7.4 hours, will not receive any additional hours.
Schools and Early Years Establishments
All schools and early years establishments will be closed on Monday 8 May 2023 and parents will be advised accordingly. Employees who work in schools or early years establishments and are not rostered to work on Monday 8 May 2023, will be afforded the opportunity to take the time on a date that suits service needs. Managers are encouraged to ensure that employees are allowed the time as near to Monday 8 May 2023 as possible.
Smarter Working and Alternative Work Patterns
Anyone who is not rostered to work on Monday as part of their normal working hours and pattern, will receive the appropriate entitlement to public holiday leave to be taken at a time that suits service needs. Managers are encouraged to ensure that employees are allowed the time as near to Monday 8 May 2023 as possible.
Annual Leave
For employees who have booked annual leave for Monday 8 May 2023, this should be cancelled to allow for the public holiday to be applied. For employees who work more than the standard daily working hours of 7 or 7.4 hours, the remaining hours will be deducted from your annual leave entitlement.
Eligibility
The public holiday entitlement will only apply to those employed by North Lanarkshire Council on 8 May 2023.
Leavers
No payment will be made to leavers who have not used this additional public holiday.
Sickness Absence
In line with our conditions of service, employees who are on sick leave on Monday 8 May 2023 will not receive a compensatory day.
Suspension from Duty
