Where can I find the recruitment forms?

I have been successful at interview, when do I find out my start date?

A start date will be confirmed by the line manager for the post as soon as possible following the conclusion of the full recruitment process.

Do I get my contract before I start?

Yes, it is our legal obligation to issue a contract of employment to an employee / successful candidate prior to commencing employment in post.

Do my wages get matched in my new post?

For local government employees (exc. teachers & associated professionals), the following applies::

All new recruits will be placed on the first point of the scale. However, if they are currently in paid employment with relevant experience, they may be salary matched following discussion with the recruiting manager and HR Business Partner.

There may be other reasons for placement above the first point on the scale however these will be by exception and determined on a case by case basis.

You will receive an increment on 1 April, provided you have 6 months in the grade and you are not at the top of the scale and your conduct has been deemed satisfactory.

If your start date is between 1 October and 31 March, you will be entitled to an increment six months from that date. In subsequent years, increments, if appropriate, will be paid on 1 April.

The Council reserves the right to withhold one or more annual increments in the event of unsatisfactory performance.

For teachers & associated professionals, the following applies::

All newly qualified teachers will be placed on point 0 of the salary scale. Once they have completed their probationary year and obtained their full GTC registration, they will move to point 1 of the salary scale.

They will then receive an increment in August each year up to point 5 of the salary scale.

Where is the work place that I will be based and who is my line manager going to be?

These will be confirmed by the line manager for the post as soon as possible following the conclusion of the full recruitment process.

How do I go about getting an ID badge?

If an employee requires an ID Badge, their manager will need to complete an ID badge request form via MS forms.

Education school staff should use the education school employee’s request form and all other staff should use the non education school employee’s request form.

Can I please get more information on the post I have applied for?

The email inviting you to interview provides details of a contact person for the post.

Is it possible to reschedule my interview, I can't make that date?

What paperwork do I have to bring with me to my interview?

The email inviting you to interview provides details of the documentation required.

I can't make my allocated interview time, can I change this to another one that is still available?

What do I do after I have completed my shortleet for a post?

This should be returned by email to the Recruitment Team.

I want to apply for a temporary post within my or another service. Will I have the right to revert to my substantive/permanent post?

Right to Revert (Permanent Employees Only)
You will retain the right to revert to your substantive post for a maximum period up to two years. This temporary appointment will be reviewed at 18 months. If at that time the temporary cover is still required, you will be asked to confirm whether you wish to revert to your substantive post at the 2 year period or relinquish your substantive post but retain a right to revert to a suitable alternative post of the same grade, identified via the Council’s Workforce Change Policy when the requirement for the temporary post ends.

My Additional Support Needs Assistant for a particular pupil is on maternity leave. What can be done to cover this, as this particular pupil really needs the support?

I have received my disclosure certificate what will I do with this?

If it’s a Basic Disclosure, please provide a copy of your certificate to the Employee Service Centre, People Helpdesk ESC-HelpDeskTeam@northlan.gov.uk.

If it’s a PVG certificate, this is for your records as a copy of this certificate is provided to us direct from Disclosure Scotland.

How do I access Talentlink?

Talentlink can be accessed as follows:

The following should be entered in the 3 fields available:

– Your full NLC email address
– Your password

Who provides a reference for someone following a settlement or compromise agreement?

Requests for references in these circumstances should be directed to the Head of People and Organisational Development.

I want to apply for a post but due to a disability, I have been unable to apply online via MYJOBSCOTLAND. Can I apply using an alternative method?

Alternative Application Packs can be requested in other formats for example, Large Print, Braille and Audio. To request an alternative Application Pack please call the

Please include details of the post and advert reference number in all communication.

I want to volunteer to help in either a nursery or primary school?

You need to approach the Head Teacher of the nursery/primary that you would like to volunteer in. If the head teacher agrees then she needs to send your name and home address to the HR Business Partners aligned to Education & Families who will arrange for you to have a PVG application processed.

I'm an Early Learning Practitioner looking for work?

Please contact the HR Business Partner aligned to Education & Families.

I'm looking to make an appointment for my PVG/Disclosure check?

If a PVG / Disclosure check is required our recruitment team will be in touch with you to complete this. You can contact the Recruitment team by emailing ESC-RecruitmentTeam@northlan.gov.uk.

Please note PVG/Disclosure checks for volunteers are completed by the employing service.

Who sets up first class accounts?

Please log a call with IT Service Desk and this will be referred to the Technical Team at Caldervale High School.

I require Early Years temporary cover at my establishment, how do I request this?

Please contact your HR Business Partner team.

I want to get an employee number for a newly recruited employee?

Employee numbers are available to managers within their myTeam account under personal/payroll reference for the relevant employee.
