Sourcing Short- & Long-Term Teacher Supply Cover

Short-Term Cover

The Head Teacher of each establishment is responsible for organising all short-term supply cover (less than 20 working days) and the relevant funding to support this additional resource is costed to the establishment. The funding entitlement for short-term cover differs for each sector area:

ASN – cover is centrally funded from the 10th day of absence

Primary – cover is centrally funded from the 15th day of absence

Secondary – cover is centrally funded from the 25th day of absence

Identifying Resource

There are 2 options to identify the resource to backfill short-term cover requirements:

  1. Additional hours can be offered to existing part-time staff.

Processing Payment

To process payment for additional hours worked, the hours should be claimed by the staff member via MySelf and approved by the Head Teacher, further guidance can be found here: Payment Process (Temporary Teachers & Associated Professionals) – My NL

Long-Term Cover

When an absence continues for 20 working days and beyond you must complete the following steps:

  • Inform the HRBP Team by clicking here to submit your cover requirements.
  • Await confirmation from the HRBP Team before engaging or continuing to offer work – refer to process map for full process.
