Our Chief Executive Des Murray will be joining us as well as a session on Deaf BSL awareness and much more

The next meeting is on Wednesday 26 June from 10:30 – 3:30pm in Forgewood Community Centre Dinmont Crescent Motherwell ML1

Des Murray Chief Executive will be there to tell us about his vision for North Lanarkshire from 10:30am and hopefully there will be some time for questions.

We’ll be letting you know what the Council has been doing to advance equality for people; and

from 1:30pm we’ll be joined by  Deaf Services Lanarkshire who will take us through to 3:30pm with a session on Deaf / BSL awareness. The tutor will be a Deaf BSL user so the session is sure to be interesting and insightful   

Forgewood Community Centre is very accessible and there is plenty parking available.

> Nil by Mouth Scotland’s leading anti-sectarian organisation will deliver the challenging Beyond Religion and Belief workshop from 11:00 – 12:30. This is sure to be a talking point and of interest to all.
 
> The Early Learning and Childcare Expansion Programme will have a significant impact on the councils workforce, and will offer many opportunities for career development and progression, these opportunities will be available in a range of grades, and working patterns. Come and meet the expansion team and find out more about  the roles available and how you can be part of it.

The EEF launch 2 new employment initiatives to commemorate International Day of Disabled People and 16 Days of Action against Violence against Women

You are invited to the Employee Equality Forum Event commemorating International Day of Disabled People and 16 Days of Action against Violence against Women

Monday 4 December, 11am until 3pm (lunch will be provided at 13.00-14.00)

The Employee Equality Forum this December will launch two new important employee initiatives – with the help of the Council’s Equality Champion Cllr Heather McVey and the Convener of Education Cllr Frank McNally – the ‘Reasonable Adjustment Protocol’ for disabled employees and ‘Gender-based violence guidance for managers’.

An employment solicitor will be there from 11:00-12:30 to help us understand the law and reasonable adjustments for disabled employees.  

The council is also getting behind the ’16 Days of Action against Violence against Women’ campaign by way of initiating a Pledge to work towards making North Lanarkshire a place where gender based violence won’t be tolerated. There will also be a ‘marketplace’ where different organisations and charities will be in attendance, with lots of information and resources, including the Terrence Higgins Trust, Women’s Aid, Making Life Easier, Scottish Human Rights Centre and North Lanarkshire Disability access panel.

You can attend just one or all of the sessions depending on your availability. Please let us know if you’ll be coming along for catering purposes. If you have any communication support requirements let us know about that too

Gender is the issue of the day with a packed programme looking at gender, the causes of gender inequality and its links with occupational segregation and gender based violence. We’ll also be looking at NLC employment data and what it tells us about NLC employees; what the  Council is doing to address inequality and also discuss your ideas for things we could be doing.

Communication and Support

The Employee Equality Forum met on Wednesday 25 May 10:00am-2:00pm in the ICT & Technical Services Centre, Caldervale HS, Towers Rd, Airdrie, ML6 8PG.

This workshop based meeting focused on disability equality at work and in particular communication and support.

Workshops included:

  • A chance to check out  what aids and new technology are out there to support people with sensory impairments
  • How to get Access to Work support
  • Best practice in delivering inclusive communication and how to get it right and 
  • A consultation on the Council’s draft protocol for requesting reasonable adjustments.
  • A demonstration of the new HR & Payroll Self Service function to be rolled out across the Council
