Industrial Action

Unite the Union has notified the council that its members who support the running of primary schools, secondary schools, ASN schools and early years establishments, will be striking on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 September 2023 in relation to the proposed pay award.  No other trade unions are involved in the strike within North Lanarkshire Council.

Employees who are involved in the strike, are only those who are members of UNITE the UNION and work in schools or early years establishments and are employed as: janitorial, cleaning and catering staff, early years workers, ASNA’s, Classroom Assistants, Technicians, Admin and Clerical staff.  Teachers and other Council employees are not affected by this strike and should attend work as normal unless advised otherwise due to your work location being closed.

This means that a number of primary schools (including nursery classes) and a few secondary schools will be closed on these three dates and will reopen on Friday 29 September 2023.   If your work location is affected by the strike, your line manager will contact you to advise on the arrangements for the days of the strike.

Please note that schools will have closed for the arranged September holiday weekend on Friday 22 and Monday 25 September, which means that some parents/carers will need to make additional alternative arrangements for childcare if your school is affected by the strike action.

The following schools will be closed to children and young people on Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 September 2023:

For the most up-to-date information and details of the schools and establishments affected, please refer to the website www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/industrial-action

Head teachers and line managers will be in touch directly with those staff who are employed in any of the above schools.

Please note that all other primary, secondary and ASN schools and Family Learning Centres will remain open to staff and pupils from Tuesday 26 September 2023 following the September holiday weekend.

This is a situation that may be subject to change and employees will be informed at the first opportunity if there are further changes to the school day.

For further information about the strike action please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions provided or contact your line manager or a member of the Employment and Policy Team at EmploymentPolicyTeam@northlan.gov.uk.
