Flexible retirement allows members of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) to request to access their pension and lump sum, if applicable, while continuing to work on reduced hours in the same post or at a lower grade in another post.
We have recently updated our Flexible Retirement Guidance to reflect changes that have been made by Strathclyde Pension Fund that will take effect from 1 October 2024.
With effect from 1 October 2024, the costs associated with flexible retirement will increase significantly meaning that in almost all cases, there will be a cost to the Council. It is important to note that under no circumstances will the Council pay any costs associated with flexible retirement and where there is a cost, the application will automatically be rejected.
The updated guidance provides more information, and if you are considering flexible retirement, you should speak to your line manager in the first instance in order that they can seek more information and assess if costs will be involved.
