Health & Wellbeing Support for Employees

Mental Wellbeing Support

We can all benefit from good advice or support at some time in our lives, either for an existing issue or to enable us to plan ahead for the future. The Councils’ Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which is now provided by Vita Health Group, as part of the overall occupational health contract supplied by Health Management Ltd (HML), is available to all employees to help make life easier, whether the issue is personal or work-related.

The EAP helpline is available 24/7 and gives unlimited telephone access to immediate emotional support and advice on legal, consumer and financial concerns. The Helpline will be answered by a qualified advisor/Counsellor who will talk through your reasons for calling and offer information, advice, support and signposting.

The EAP helpline number is 0800 111 6387 (Select Option 2 for emotional support and Option 1 for legal, consumer and financial concerns

You can also access an on online wellbeing hub my-eap which has general information, support, and guidance on a range of issues such as health and wellbeing, emotional/personal, work/career, legal and money worries. When you click on the link you will be asked for an organisation access code which is NLCWELL.

Physical Wellbeing Support

The provision of Physiotherapy Services to employees will also now be provided by VITA Heath Group. The main aim of the service is to assist both employees and managers in addressing overall health and well-being, in order to maintain a healthy, productive workforce and positively impact on attendance levels.

The primary focus will be to help restore movement and function in employees who are suffering from Musculoskeletal related injury’s, illness and/or disability, in order to prevent an absence or assist an employee in getting back to work, as quickly and safely as possible. The service will also provide preventative, ergonomic and self-help measures to help reduce future risk of injury or illness, prevent absences and optimise employees health & well-being.

The support and treatment that you receive will be primarily work focused but that does not mean that the health condition needs to be work-related. The type of issues that may benefit from physiotherapy include the following:

  • bones, joints and soft tissue – such as back pain, neck pain, and shoulder pain
  • brain or nervous system – such as movement problems resulting from a recent stroke, or diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinsons disease
  • heart and circulation – such as rehabilitation after a heart attack

Your physiotherapy treatment will comprise of an initial assessment via telephone, followed by a course of follow up sessions if recommended. Not all employees will receive physical treatment and this will be determined by the qualified physiotherapist.

Should you require a referral to physiotherapy please contact your line manager who will make the request through MedigoldONE, the councils’ online occupational health portal.

Guidance for managers on how to access MedigoldONE and the physiotherapy request form can be found here.

If the triage process determines that there is no work related benefit to you receiving physiotherapy treatment from the council you can access this through the NHS at Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy | NHS Lanarkshire (scot.nhs.uk) or your GP.
